“The first step in crafting a life you want is to get rid of everything you don’t.” – Joshua Becker

Thanks to an assist from master minimizer Melissa Camara Wilkins of Nosidebar.com, in this episode of BioTrust Radio, we’ll discuss The Minimalism Checklist and provide a 10-step checklist to becoming minimalist—whether you’re just getting started or you’re already on the minimalism path. Here’s some of the key take-aways that we’ll cover in this episode:

  • Ask yourself why you want to simplify. When you find your why, you define your priority.
  • It’s not all-or-nothing. If you want to make big changes, start small. A mentor or coach can help you create a plan for success.
  • You probably need less than you think. Separate wants and needs. This also helps us practice delaying gratification, which can even help us make better food choices and manage our emotions better.
  • Think about what is serving you and what’s not. Keep things that you know to be useful and/or bring you good energy. Look for the joy.
  • Learn how to set boundaries. Designing a simple life doesn’t stop with your stuff. A simpler schedule can bring peace, joy, and productivity.
  • Take time to unplug. Get out in nature, connect with the people around you, and spend time with yourself, alone.
  • It’s hard to pursue simple living when your reality is exhausted living. Schedule rest.
  • Becoming minimalist means simplifying ways that makes sense for you. Make it your own. Take it at your own pace; don’t make comparisons.
  • Just because you’re ready to simplify doesn’t mean that you need to force that on others, who may not be ready to make the same choices. Remember your relationships and do what’s right for you.
  • Enjoy more time, freedom, and room to breathe. Enjoy less stuff, less stress, less hassle. Practice gratitude.
