Hey, it’s Coach Josh, and last night while out to dinner, I was reminded of two research studies (yeah, I know, I’m a geek).
Allow me to set the stage.
We pull up to La Condesa—a cool, authentic Mexican restaurant with a modern twist in downtown Austin serving up some of the best guacamole that I’ve ever had the pleasure of sampling. A truly euphoric experience for my mouth and taste buds alike.
You’re going to think it’s funny, but my 2-year old daughter loves to decorate “Easter Eggs”… and although it’s been quite a while since last Easter (after all, NEXT Easter is only a couple months away), we still break out the eggs from time to time for a little Easter Egg decorating like we did just the other day.
Truthfully, it doesn’t require a lot of extra work, as Daddy always has hard-boiled eggs in the fridge. Why? Because they’re a great, incredibly convenient high protein snack chock-full of healthy fats and more vitamins that you can count. That’s why!

Hey, it’s Joel and Josh and today we want to address the big “carb” debate while providing you with some simple alternatives. You see, the mainstream media is constantly bombarding the American public with messages to eat fewer carbs. And while Americans could certainly use an overhaul on their carb-eating habits, eating less isn’t necessarily the answer, nor is it required when you follow this one simple “carb rule”:
Eat less sugar, eat more fiber.
As the above carb rule suggests, the biggest problem with your current carb intake is likely that you’re eating far too much sugar—and far too little fiber…a simple problem to correct when you know exactly to do.
Secret-ingredient foods are by far the best fat-burning foods you can possibly eat. In fact, here’s a list of the foods we included in our huge home-cooked dinner tonight, each of them containing the magic “secret ingredient”:
You’ve probably heard the tip that if you’re interested in losing weight, it’s a good idea to eat slowly and chew your food at least 15-20 times before swallowing. Doing so allows your brain and body to actually sense that it’s full, instead of cramming a bunch of food down your throat only to find out 30 mins later that you’re WAY stuffed.
And for that reason—and a few others—I’m picking cherries as my #1 fruit for weight loss.

Instead of conventionally drinking protein shakes in a cup, she arranged hers in a pottery bowl. As a matter of fact, the trend in the health and fitness community seems to be to have high-protein smoothies in a bowl with some added “toppers,” like extra fruit, seeds, nuts, or even my chunks of 85% cocoa chocolate!
It makes smoothie-making a little more interesting. It’s an idea that’s caught somewhere between overnight oats (minus the oats) and a protein smoothie. Combined, it is a smoothie bowl—totally fun to make and visually appealing to say the least! After making this, she devoured it, of course! It tasted like breakfast and dessert combined except for Linda… it was actually dinner! Hahaha! (more…)

Childhood hunger is a global crisis. Yet contrary to popular belief, it’s not relegated to third-world countries.
