When it comes to healthy alternatives to sweetening food, both honey and pure maple syrup often come up in the conversation. But is one better than the other? If using substantial quantities, we think so.
For instance, per tablespoon, honey has 23% more calories than pure maple syrup. Even more, honey contains 40% more sugar than pure maple syrup!

Did you know than recent research from Harvard University revealed that sugary beverages such as soda, sports drinks, and *gasp* even 100% JUICE are responsible for up to 180,000 deaths annually?
In fact, “too many sugary drinks” is noted as the actual cause of death for 1 out of every 100 people in the US.
144,000 of those deaths are related to diabetes, again caused by a high intake of high-sugar beverages.

New findings from the National Center of Health Statistics and also from the Centers for Disease Control show that it’s NOT low income or lack of education that have Americans reaching for unhealthy foods on a daily basis.
In fact, in the recent poll, average “fast food” consumers were very aware that they were making a terrible food choices for their health and their waistlines. Even more, these folks weren’t browsing the “dollar menu” at their local fast food joint due to low income—the same survey showed that the average income of fast food consumers is 130% above the poverty line!
So, if it’s not ignorance or income, why would anyone resort to making regular poor food choices that he/she knew was piling on belly fat and damaging his/her health? (more…)

In his best selling book Your Best Life Now, Joel Osteen tells the story of a man who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean on a cruise, yet never ate in the dining hall with the other passengers. Instead, at meal time the man went off by himself and ate from a supply of cheese and crackers that he brought along with him.
